If you don’t want to drive anymore

People decide to stop driving for any number of reasons. Many people make this decision as a normal part of life, especially if driving is becoming inconvenient, difficult or stressful.

Talk to someone you trust

If you think there might be a reason why you shouldn’t drive anymore, it can be helpful to talk to a family member, friend or health practitioner before you make your decision.

Note: a health practitioner could be your doctor (GP), a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner or a specialist if appropriate.

Choose to stop driving

If you do this, you should be certain that you’re not going to drive anymore. If you change your mind after your driver licence expiry date, you can’t drive until you’ve successfully renewed your driver licence.

You can send your driver licence card back to us if you’d like to. Post it to:

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency
Private Bag 11777
Palmerston North 4442
